We are a group of women (but men are welcome!) who have an interest in textile art and embroidery. We are of mixed abilities and there is no need for you to be able to sew to come and join us - there are no tests!
New members are always welcome - why not call in and join us as a guest for a few months?
Meeting fee for visitors is only £5.
Our meetings vary - we have talks and workshops, show and tell - we also have lots of weekend workshops and playdays. For details of what's coming up (and what's been and gone!) check out our programme below...

February Meeting - Sarah Ruaux

Sarah first caught the attention of our Chair, Wyn, when she saw her at Knitting and Stitching a couple of years ago exhibiting a pair of golden shoes (see below).

Sarah has now reached the ancient age of 13 and came to speak to us at Halifax in February. She is a member of the Guild's Parbold Branch (in Lancashire) and has a particular interest in shoes. This interest is obviously in Sarah's blood as her Grandad is also a member of the Guild and is a clog-maker. Sarah made her first pair of shoes four years ago and brought some of her beautiful work to illustrate her talk.

The pair of clogs on the left of the below picture are the first pair that Sarah made, as the result of a challenge from her Grandad.

Below are details from some of Sarah's pieces.

Inbetweeners - Slippery Business

Liz says, "well they're not exactly Sarah's fabulous shoes but I'm quite pleased with my first pair of slippers for Steve's Valentine's present. There's a lady in Rastrick called Amanda who has set up a new business called "Joes Toes." She sells the felt sections and soles, you can choose the colours then stitch them up however you like. The felt is brilliant for stitching or needle felting into."

In case you want to try this splendid idea for yourselves, I have visited the website at no extra expense and here is a photo of the slippers in kit form :

The kit costs £29 and the website address is joetoes.co.uk or you can ring them on 01484 443161

Hearts Playday

Our timely Hearts Playday at the Maurice Jagger Centre at the weekend took inspiration from the work of Beryl Taylor, Carolyn Saxby and Jude Hill.
Members produced some stunning work, as usual, and all of their pieces were so different!

Jan's woven hearts

Margaret's hand-stitched and map / button hearts

Julie's machine-stitched hearts

Wyn's appliquéd sea-themed heart

Helen's dyed and stitched heart panel

Cath's heart panel on a woven ribbon background

Rona's hand-stitched multi-heart / circle panel

Janice's hearts applied to a woven strip background

A variation on a theme, for Sue's "Heart is where the Home is" piece!

And below are the updated versions of member's pieces!

Inbetweeners - Sue's Super Sampler

This is Sue Morgan's first hand-stitched patchwork sampler quilt, which she has just completed after working on it since September. I'm sure that many of you, like me, wish that you had finished anything since September!
